On June 5, 2024, 8 anti-fascists were detained in Moscow and Rostov-on-Don in the case of the "creation of the extremist organization Antifa United". This was reported by the metropolitan Department of the Investigative Committee. According to the security forces, this organization "engaged in the involvement of persons, including minors" and "planning hate crimes <...> against police officers" (parts 1, 2 of Article 282.1 of the Criminal Code). The security forces consider the anti-fascist Bogdan Yakimenko to be the leader of this organization. On June 6, the Simonovsky District Court of Moscow, at the request of the investigator, sent 18-year-old anti-fascist Roman Chizhikov under house arrest, who after being detained signed a confession in the case of participation in the "extremist community" Antifa United.
Bogdan Yakimenko, aka Max Vertsinsky, had previously been persecuted after the attack on him and Mikhail Ivanov in 2020 by a group of neo-Nazis. The anti-fascists spent a year under house arrest, then were on their own recognizance, and after the first sentence, which was subsequently overturned, they spent eight months in jail. Last year, Bogdan was sentenced to 4 years of forced labor. The verdict has been appealed and has not yet entered into force.
Bogdan never hid his views and linked the attention from the E Center and the FSB to his own anti-fascist activism. He did not want to leave Russia, studied at the Faculty of Law and dreamed of becoming a lawyer.
